Sts Peter and Paul Primary (Spanish Second Language)

Course Overview
Our Spanish as a Second Language courses at Sts Peter and Paul Primary are targeted to students who have some contact with Spanish language and have already learnt the basics at the school. Classes start on Thursdays 3:15pm and finish at 4:45pm during school term at the language room. Kids come to class direct after school and parents come and collect them at the end of the lesson.
How Do We Do It?
Children are introduced to the basics and progress following the Australian Spanish Curriculum approved by ACARA.
There are two basic interrelated areas of study in our approach that are 1. Communicating meaning in Spanish and 2. Understanding Spanish language and Latin American Culture. Each of the activities and classes are designed with these two objectives in mind.
We aim to achieve a standard whereby students initiate and use strategies to maintain interactions in Spanish language that are related to their immediate environment. They use appropriate sound combinations, intonation and rhythm in spoken texts. They collaborate in spoken and written activities that involve the language of planning and problem-solving to share information, ideas and preferences.
They use strategies to locate and interpret information and ideas in texts, and demonstrate understanding by responding in Spanish or English, adjusting their response to context, purpose and audience. They create texts, selecting and using a variety of vocabulary and sentence structures to suit context. They sequence information and ideas, and use conventions appropriate to text type.
